Prijon Excursion

The Excursion is a BIG boat, make no mistake… it’s 30 inches wide with lots of storage room both fore and aft. There’s the standard Prijon deck rigging and storage nets on the deck to hold stuff you need close at hand. The seats are pretty comfortable for several hours at a time. The Excursion is not a hard-tracking boat, and with two people paddling, the rudder really makes a huge difference, especially in dicey conditions like big following seas. On a related note, the Excursion handles much differently when paddled alone than as a tandem. It really wants to see some weight up front. In short, the Excursion is a stable, versatile platform for getting out on the water and exploring, be it lakes, rivers or coastal waters.

Ocean Kayaks Venus 11

The Venus 11 is a fast, stable boat. The bow is fine with a little flare so it cuts through the waves in choppy water and there is enough stowage for day trips. The 28″ beam provides more than enough stability to move around in the boat and the boat is better than expected when running across the waves. It also isnt too heavy for one person to get it on top of a car alone. Overall, the kayak is great for men or women, despite its intention as a female kayak.

Perception Sport Pescador 10

The Pescador 10 tracks wonderfully, and handles great in the wind. It is even stable enough to sit side saddle very well. Weight is not an issue and one person can very easily get it in and out of a car alone. Also, there’s enough room to put you gear for a couple nights of camping as well.

Wilderness Systems Ride 135

The Ride 135 is a stable, fast, and maneuverable kayak. It handles really well with or without the rudder, and is fast for a kayak of its size. Since it is wide, the Ride takes a couple of strokes to get going, but then the kayak’s glide makes up for the slow start. It is also a very stable platform for standing to sight cast or scout river hazards. The Ride 135 is perfect for fishing, it has a huge capacity and lots of room for coolers, crates, tackle boxes, etc.

Liquidlogic Coupe 10

The Coupe 10 is a great cross-over kayak to use in flat water, light rapids, and the ocean surf. It has decent primary stability and great secondary stability as it takes waves and rapids with ease and it never feels like it will tip. The skeg is great, allowing for great maneuverability or perfect tracking depending on your needs. The Coupe is a great all around kayak that can do just about anything you want to do on the water at a great price.

Wilderness Systems Pamlico 100

This kayak is very comfortable even after a long day of paddleing and the knee pads are a plus. It tracks extremely well. The cockpit is also pretty large at 47.5 x 22. The Pamlico tracks well for a small kayak, and is very stable. It works great in calm water, and can handle rapids if you have a spray skirt. It has tons of storage, and allows you to take more gear than you will ever need.

Ocean Kayak Caper Classic

The Caper is very stable, tracks well, surprisingly fast, maneuverable well in surf, and surfs surprisingly well. It’s length compared to shorter surf boats gives it an advantage in accelerating to catch waves. It will punch through moderate surf with no problem, then moves along nicely in ocean swell. It is relatively light and therefore a breeze to cartop and unload. It is used by many as a fishing boat, but overall it is a nice all-around boat for everything from flat bays/lakes to vigorous surf zone paddling.

Venture Kayaks Flex 11

The Flex 11 is a great kayak for any water conditions. The Flex really shines when you take it out into the wates, where it feels very stable and tracks perfectly with the skeg. It is very fast for an 11 foot kayak, and tracks perfectly thanks to the skeg. Overall, the Flex 11 is a great kayak for any level of padddler in any type of conditions.

Old Town Loon 111

The Loon 111 is a very basic kayak, but it still performs well. It handles flat water with ease, and it tracks very well. It can also handle mild river rapids as well. It manuevers very well in small twisting creeks, but can get a little swamped in big waves if you don’t take them well, but that’s a rare problem. The loon has very solid construction, and has plenty of room for some extra supplies. It’s a very simple boat, which is an advantage to new or infrequent paddlers. It sits in the water nicely, easy to get in and out of, but is also failry narrow (28 inches) so you won’t bang your knuckles while paddling.

Cobra Navigator

The Navigator is easy to use, easy to get on and off, and very light weight for its size. It is easy to transport since it is lightweight. On the water this is a safe and stable craft, which handles all weather and waves with ease. It tracks and handles very well and is easy to use even for novice paddlers. The waterproof hatches seal tightly and never got a drop of water inside. The only negative with the kayak is that the width causes you to hit you hands on the sides while paddling, which is easily fixed by buying a longer paddle.
